The Carrick on Shannon Public Realm Improvement Scheme has now been completed on behalf of Leitrim County Council. Extensive works were carried out within the town centre to enhance the existing streetscapes of Main Street & St. George’s Terrace including the junction of both streets with Bridge Street. The Scheme extended from Main Street onto the old Dublin Road, lower Summerhill, the Leitrim Road, Priest’s Lane and Church Lane.
The project works included;
- The widening of footpaths and the introduction of shared surface space at identified locations to provide an enhanced pedestrian experience.
- The replacing of existing road surfaces and the installation of new ESB, Coms. foul, water, stormwater drainage system and associated works.
- Installation of new street lights thoughout and the provision of soft landscaping measures, including street furniture to reduce the extent of on street car parking provision.
As part of the project, the Town Clock, a protected structure, was moved by approximately 2 metres from its current position so that it is now visible from the main streets in the town. This finished pedestrian focused layout enhances the town greatly and its use by the residents and visitors alike.
