Fitzwilliam Square, Wicklow Town Centre
This exciting project on behalf of Wicklow County Council involved the complete improvement and upgrade works of Fitzwilliam Square, including the garden area around the Halpin Monument. It also included works in Abbey St, Church St, South Quay and Bridge St Wicklow. The street works comprised of completely renewing and extending the footpaths in these areas, also cold milling and resurfacing of carriageways plus resetting of all ironwork.
The Project involved site clearance, accommodation works earthworks, planting, resurfacing of the existing roads, hard and soft landscaping, installation of public lighting and street furniture; provision of ramped area at main junction, plus laying a granite setts, granite paving throughout the entire area plus a special coating (Addastone) in the newly created pedestrian area; the provision and protection/relocation of underground services and utilities plus replacing existing frames and covers with recessed frames and covers, all of which involved significant neighbour/ stakeholder/ trader liaison.
Feedback from local businesses and residents has been extremely positive, not only regarding the excellent finish throughout the project but also the impact the project has had on the local community. By utilising a focused approach on each section of works enabled reduced time periods outside business and residential premises, while ensuring works were delivered in line with the programme, this approach worked very well for such a compact and much loved local amenity. The beautiful Halpin monument in Fitzwilliam Square is once again a fantastic local landmark. We look forward to working with Wicklow County Council in the future.
